Plot[edit | edit source]

Mike, the main character and college student, lives alone with his cat Vera and is unhappy with his life. Mike is shown staring into his bathroom mirror and comments on his appearance. He finds the idea of himself looking like a crazy person amusing and begins to make silly faces and howl before his neighbors loudly complain about the noise. Defeated, Mike leaves his bathroom and heats a bowl of Sloppy Stuff in the microwave. He is depicted engaging in different activities during his leisure time, such as drawing, talking to his pet cat Vera, playing a football video game before becoming irritated after losing, trying to find Angry Beavers content online, and idly watching the TV. At the end of these segments, Mike wonders what he is doing with his life before leaving for his classes.

Outside the bus stop, Mike is slouching impatiently and looks down at his tee-shirt which reads "I AM MIKE THE HARDCORE + AWESOME". Mike soon has a flashback of his unnamed ex-girlfriend before turning his focus to a woman standing next to him. He stares at the woman hoping she greets him and becomes bitter when she is seen walking away. Mike soon arrives at his composition class and has trouble focusing as his professor rambles about rectangles. Mike remarks that he hopes the party he will be attending later is fun before groaning as his professor remarks about a rectangle within a rectangle.

When Mike and his friends (Phil, Ted, Jason, and Travis) arrive at the party, they're seen visibly unimpressed as Ted comments about how it blows. Mike tries to reassure Ted that the party will get better soon before trailing off as he spots an attractive woman at the party. Two visibly drunk men named Lenny and Choo-Choo interrupt the conversation by laughing and Mike greets the pair, introducing them to his friend group. Mike becomes embarrassed as the pair begins to drunkenly ramble and his friends look at him in confusion. To escape the situation, Mike announces that he is going to grab some drinks and attempts to converse with the other partygoers with no luck. He becomes intoxicated and attempts to talk to the girl he previously spotted about his idea for a series before becoming frustrated as she loses interest in the conversation. When Mike joins back with his group of friends, Phil notices Mike is upset asks about it. Mike says he’ll feel better after moshing to some songs from the band before becoming shocked by the nonmetal songs from the band Shotgun River. Mike gets secondhand embarrassment from this and soon, Mike’s friends become enraged and begin to trash the party, Phil attempting to overtake the band to play his own metal music, and many of the party goers fleeing from the scene. The party ends with Mike urinating on a tree and when confronted, Mike pleads that all he wanted was for someone to listen to him talk about his series.

After the party, Mike contemplates what he should do before his next class and decides to masturbate out of a desire to feel something. He reflects while masturbating about how he longs for companionship and needs to find a soulmate. A purple, furry hand soon reaches toward’s Mike’s face to caress it followed by a woman’s voice asking if the soulmate could be a purple skunk person. Mike begins to respond before cutting himself off after realizing that there is someone else in the room with him. When he looks at the individual, he is met with an anthropomorphic skunk woman in his room. Mike screams and runs out of his bedroom upon seeing this. After several minutes of Mike hiding from the strange creature, he finally approaches her, asking who she is. The anthropomorphic skunk introduces herself as Melissa and attempts to explain to Mike that she is a púca who only appears to those in need. She then adds that if he doesn’t believe that she is a púca, then she is simply a construct of his imagination. This causes Mike to panic, believing that he has become insane. Melissa attempts to reassure Mike by explaining that she’s meant to represent the positivity that Mike lacks in his life. Mike comments about how an individual named Freud would make fun of him for this, leading Melissa to attempt to further comfort him. Mike pulls away from Melissa and retorts that what he’s doing is something only crazy people would do and how his ex-girlfriend was right about him. Melissa consoles Mike by explaining how he isn’t crazy and simply needs someone there for him and tells him it doesn’t matter if she’s real or not. Mike soon confides in Melissa which leads to the two sharing a passionate kiss.

The pair are seen in bed together cuddling before Mike realizes he has another class to attend. Noticing Mike’s disinterest in the class, Melissa suggests the two go on an evening walk instead. When Mike explains to Melissa about why he can’t skip class, Melissa dismisses it and convinces Mike to go with her instead of class. Mike and Melissa are soon seen walking outside, with Melissa singing to herself. Mike comments about how beautiful her singing voice is and Melissa thanks him, telling him she sings at a club. When Mike inquires about this club, she points to his head. Mike finds this odd and retorts how most people don’t make up imaginary girlfriends. Melissa points out how Mike called her his girlfriend and explains that he had an empty feeling inside of him so his mind simply filled it with an idea. When Mike looks confused, she continues by stating that while it may not make sense to most people, for him it has meaning beyond tangibility. Melissa tells Mike how she doesn’t want Mike to feel lonely and felt that if she was there for him, he would begin to feel better about himself. Mike is worried and asks Melissa how she’d feel about him finding someone other than herself after she’s helped him with his self esteem. Melissa explains that if that’s the case, then she would be happy for him as she did her job correctly, and if he didn’t then she would simply have him all to herself. Melissa asks Mike if she can stick around and when Mike agrees she asks him to promise her to never forget about her if he does ever move on. When Mike agrees, the two embrace and comment about how cheesy the ending is before sharing a kiss under the moonlight.
